Scrawny To Brawny│Q & A

It’s been a while since we last had a question and answer session.

As you may have noticed, we have been busy making adjustments to the site – much of which is still yet to be carried out. Today however, I had some time to rummage through my inbox and reply to the backlog of emails I have received over the past week. Somewhere deep within, I found this:

“Hi Aqil. Great blog, really inspiring, keep it up! I recently read an article you wrote on body types, which I found interesting especially as it addressed an issue I have. I would consider myself to be an ectomorph since I find it really hard to gain weight, especially muscle. I eat well, don’t drink or smoke and train to the best of my ability while doing cardio a minimum of twice a week. Are there any pointers you could give me in terms of any supplements I should take (weight gainers) or anything that I should be doing that could potentially help me build muscle? Thanks. [sic]”

Thank you for the kind words. As for your question, you can read my response after the cut.

Getting To Grips With Weight Loss│Q & A

Having recently answered a question on weight loss, I was in two minds when I received this question via email:

“Hi there, must say i’m impressed with the blog…well done. What is the quickest way to lose fat – ive put on sooo much over the summer (>20 kg) but it just won’t go away. Is there any special food i should have (slimfast?) and i go to uni doing medicine which means after all the work i get i have not got the energy to go gyming. Any spare time i find, i play badminton for 3 hours a week and cycle for 2 hours a week. Pls help [sic].”

At first, I considered referring him to a previous Q + A (similar topic), but then I read more closely; there were a few words/statements that stuck out to me which I felt needed addressing. So, thank you for your question – You can read my response after the cut.

Protecting Your Skin From Winter│Q & A

Although this is Blogybuilding.com, I’ve always been open to answering questions about pretty much anything, so long as it can in some way or another be related to health and fitness. This week, I received an email from young lady who asked:

“Hi Aqil, great blog, keep it up. Apart from fitness, I also noticed that you have a good knowledge of the human body in general, and therefore I was wondering if you could give some advice in relation to skin. I don’t know what it is exactly but my skin (face) has become really dry. Are there any foods I can eat, or vitamins I can take which can help me? Thanks [sic].”

Great question, thank you! You can read my response after the cut.

Muscle For Beginners│Q & A

Would I call myself an experienced trainer? Yeah, why not? But that’s not to say I know everything; that’s the beauty of health and fitness – it’s a constant learning experience.

If, however, you’re a beginner with little or no weight training experience then read on – this Q + A session may just be what you’re after!

So I received this question in response to “Define Yourself” – a blog post that I recently wrote in regards to developing muscle definition. Albeit unrelated, I still thought that this reader’s question was a worth answering. He wrote:

“Right now I do a lot of resistance, endurance and body strength training. (Mixed Martial Arts Fighter) However, I don’t have a lot of experience with benching, dead-lifting, and weights though. How would you recommend I start off with weights and minor bodybuilding? [sic]”

Thank you for your question – I’m really happy that you asked this actually as I haven’t really touched upon fitness for beginners. You can peep my reply after the cut.

Improving Strength-to-Weight Ratio│Q & A

A few days ago, I received a question via Facebook from a friend I used to work with. He asked the following:

“Hey Aqil. Liking the site – referred it to my friends and family who are in to body building. I have a question if you could help (via your site): I’ve never really wanted to put on much size, but rather increase my muscles’ efficiency – almost like a gymnast, being slim and flexible, but able to lift the heaviest of weights with ease. What would be the best way to this, specifically with reference to arms, shoulders and core strength. Cheers buddy. [sic]”

Thank you for your question, and also the referral – I appreciate it! You can read my response after the cut.

Too Much Cardio?│Q & A

As you may know by now, I always make an effort when replying to your questions, whether it’s through Facebook, Twitter or email. So, it’s with great pleasure to announce that Blogybuilding.com has gone one step further and teamed up with WBFF PRO Fitness Model, Amer “The Hammer” Kamra, to answer one of our reader’s questions! If you remember, we interviewed Amer more than a month ago. If you missed it, please click here.

A few days ago, I received the following email:

“Hope the trainings going well, just a question about cardio really.

I’ve just started a 3 day split and am bulking, although finding the nutritional
side of things difficult with studies and work 7 days per week, so it’s kind of
inconsistent dirty bulking at the moment.

Question is, how much cardio should I be looking to partake in, and when shall I do
be doing it? Obviously the aim is to keep cardio to a minimum, especially when I’m
not consistently hitting 500 over maintenance every day, but I’m not sure how
literal to take the word ‘minimum’.

Appreciate the help bro [sic]”.

Losing Weight│Q & A

We’re back for another question and answer session – I’m enjoying these!

Today’s topic of discussion? Losing weight. Last Saturday, I received an email from someone asking for weight loss advice. Without revealing his name, he wrote:

“I have issues in gaining weight. I’ve been stuck on 15 stones for a long time. I gained two stone within 1 year but it’s just not happening.”

Thank you for your question. You can read my response after the cut.

Improve Your Pump│Q & A

I love the questions that we’ve been getting recently – keep them coming!

Here’s one which I particularly liked:

“Hi there. When I’m training I find it very difficult to get a pump. When I do, it doesn’t last that long. Any advice? Thanks.”

The Gun Show│Q & A

It’s good to see that we’re at that stage where people are sending in questions – I like it! After all, if you don’t ask, you don’t get.

Yesterday evening I received a question which I often get asked. Without revealing his name, he asked:

“Hello. Great website keep it up. I was just wondering how you train your arms? My arms are toned but Im having trouble adding size to them. Is there anything you can recommend?”

Thank you for your kind words and yes, there are a dozen things I can recommend. Read my reply after the cut!

“Dirty Bulking”│Q & A

Before I continue with this week’s question and answer session, I just want to thank you all for your continued support – I promise you, the best is yet to come.

OK, moving on…

Besides emails, I’ve also been receiving questions via Twitter. If it’s a generic question, I’ll usually reply by tweet. However, if I really like the question, then I’ll answer by writing a full-length post on the site.

So, last week I received a tweet from somebody asking:

@Blogybuilding – do you think a diet is needed to bulk? Considering I love to eat rubbish food #HelpNeeded
