WBFF PRO Mindy Karuk│Interview

I have to say, it was a real honour to have been given the opportunity to interview this amazing woman.

The funny thing is, she keeps telling me the same thing, vice versa! Mindy Karuk is too modest, especially for someone who has a following of over 30,000+ across Facebook and Twitter – although deservedly so! She is without a doubt one of the hardest working individuals I have come across within the health and fitness industry; her resume alone reads like a book! And then there’s her body – I could definitely write a book on that…

What’s more, she has been recently cast as a lead role in an upcoming film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme! Now that’s big!

So, what hasn’t Mindy done? An interview with Blogybuilding.com! Oh, wait… Interview after the cut!

Scrawny To Brawny│Q & A

It’s been a while since we last had a question and answer session.

As you may have noticed, we have been busy making adjustments to the site – much of which is still yet to be carried out. Today however, I had some time to rummage through my inbox and reply to the backlog of emails I have received over the past week. Somewhere deep within, I found this:

“Hi Aqil. Great blog, really inspiring, keep it up! I recently read an article you wrote on body types, which I found interesting especially as it addressed an issue I have. I would consider myself to be an ectomorph since I find it really hard to gain weight, especially muscle. I eat well, don’t drink or smoke and train to the best of my ability while doing cardio a minimum of twice a week. Are there any pointers you could give me in terms of any supplements I should take (weight gainers) or anything that I should be doing that could potentially help me build muscle? Thanks. [sic]”

Thank you for the kind words. As for your question, you can read my response after the cut.

With Christmas just over a fortnight away, I’m sure that many of you have been or are still busy putting together your wish lists!

So, with that in mind, I thought that now would be a good a time as ever to make a few suggestions as to what you could ask for – the only twist is, these are all health and fitness related products.

Also, if you’re wondering where I have sourced some these gift ideas from, make sure you check out Mashable – a social media news blog. Their founder, Pete Cashmore, is always publishing great finds via Facebook and Twitter. Gift ideas after the cut.

Optimum Nutrition UK│WINNERS

So, the time has come!

As you all know, the past week has seen us team up with the “2011 Brand of the Year” Optimum Nutrition to bring you not one, but TWO great competitions – both of which have amazing prizes to give away.

Titled Share The Fitness Joy, entrants were required to share the competition via Facebook and Twitter. Ironically, if you think about it, by sharing the post you were not only entering yourself but at the same time, lowering your chances of winning too by inviting others to enter. We chose this method of entry for two reasons: first, to build our community and readership and two, reiterate that Christmas is a time of giving and sharing as oppose to receiving.

The competition received an astounding response, with just over 250 entries. So, without further ado, find who the winners were after the cut – and if one you’re one of the lucky two, congratulations!

LIMITLESS

If I have learnt anything since launching Blogybuilding.com 4 months ago, it is that nothing is more satisfying than seeing an idea turn into a reality.

As with our bodies, we all have an idea of what we want to look like – a vision, if you like. If you had asked me back in August “how much do you think you can achieve in 4 months”, I would have never have envisaged what we achieved so far; over a million hits, a strong Facebook and Twitter following, interviews with some of the top fitness models and athletes in the industry, as well as networking and affiliating with some of the top companies in the industry.

However, when I alongside Jonny, set out on this venture, we told ourselves that despite its appeal, Blogybuilding.com will someday be part of a bigger plan – and that day is fast approaching. More after the cut.

Inspiring Change│Cheyenne’s Story

First and foremost, I would like to take this appropriate time to thank Blogybuilding.com for this amazing opportunity.  I absolutely love what this blog represents; so needless to say, I am really looking forward to sharing my story.

Hello, my name is Cheyenne Medina-Prawdzik.  I am the proud mommy to two beautiful children.  I am also happy to share that with hard work and dedication; I am a proud weight loss success story – for the second time!

I am just like every mother out there – a real honest, hard working and highly motivated mom, who wants the best for herself, her family, and other women who are in the same boat as I was.  I too had trouble getting back to my “pre-pregnancy” shape, both times, and in fact, I am still a work in progress as I truly believe that there is ALWAYS room for improvement.  I admire every woman who has the dedication and desire to get back into shape, as I know it’s not the easiest task after having children. Gaspari Athlete Alexandra Wilson│Interview

Auashdyuashduyawshuaushuawuhdwqi – JUST YES!

Forget what I said yesterday, I want Alexandra Wilson for Christmas. Just look at her; she’s living proof of why women SHOULD lift weights – absolutely stunning.

Besides the obvious, there are a couple of reasons why I love this woman. Firstly, she’s Irish and if there are three things that go well together, they are women, weight-training, and Irish accents – she ticks all three! Secondly, she lives in London – as do I! Oh, and I almost forgot, she’s a pretty big deal too; a sponsorship with Gaspari is just one of her many accolades.

Unsurprisingly, in next to no time, I invited her over for a chat. She told me I could call her Alex – so I guess that means I’m in her good books then. Haha, just kidding! I will say this though, with over 10 years of experience under her belt, she knows her sh*t! Interview after the cut.

Fruit, Post-Workout?

I’m sure many of us would agree that fruit (in its different varieties) offers an array of health benefits.

However, surprisingly, when trying to lose weight and/or build muscle, eating fruit can sometimes be a double-edged sword. By that, I mean it can either work for you or against you.

Now, before I continue, it’s worth mentioning that the reason why I have decided to address this topic is because I have recently received a tonne of emails/tweets asking me what I eat/drink after a workout – and in addition to a protein shake, if fruit is OK. Besides consuming protein post-workout, it’s just as important to replenish muscle glycogen (carbohydrates stored within the muscle). The quickest way to achieve this is to refeed the body with a fast-acting carbohydrate/simple sugar.

As you may know, fruit is made up of sugars, of which come in a variety of forms; glucose, sucrose, lactose, maltose… to name but a few! Although fruit contains glucose and sucrose, it also contains fructose – a type of sugar that you may often hear being described as “naturally occurring”. However, not all sugars are created equal and fructose is no exception. More on the reverse.
